Project Kindred Community Expectations and Participation Standards

Project Kindred creates spaces where young people grow, connect, and lead with confidence. Clear community expectations and participation standards support safety, belonging, and shared responsibility across all Project Kindred programs.

These standards apply to Project Kindred programming, including Navigators, Pathmakers, Milwaukee Quest, and related experiences offered throughout the program year.

Who These Standards Apply To

These community expectations apply to everyone involved in Project Kindred programming, including:

  • Participants

  • Parents and legal guardians

  • Mentors and adult volunteers

  • Staff and facilitators

  • Community and organizational partners

Shared understanding supports strong, consistent experiences for young people.

Participant Expectations

Participants are expected to:

  • Follow program rules, safety guidelines, and instructions

  • Treat peers, staff, volunteers, and community members with respect

  • Participate in ways that support safety and community wellbeing

These expectations help create positive, inclusive, and engaging program environments.

Parent and Legal Guardian Expectations

Parents and legal guardians are expected to:

  • Support the participant in understanding and meeting program expectations

  • Communicate proactively with Project Kindred staff regarding attendance, absences, or concerns that may affect participation

  • Respect program boundaries, safety policies, and staff roles during program activities

Family partnership plays a critical role in program success.

Mentor and Volunteer Expectations

Mentors and volunteers are expected to:

  • Follow program guidance, safety expectations, and staff instructions

  • Treat participants and families with professionalism and respect

  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and prioritize participant safety

  • Communicate concerns directly to Project Kindred staff

Consistent adult support strengthens trust and learning.

Staff and Facilitator Expectations

Staff and facilitators are expected to:

  • Lead program spaces with care, consistency, and clear direction

  • Support safety, respectful interactions, and community wellbeing

  • Respond to concerns using Project Kindred policies and procedures

  • Communicate with families and partners as appropriate

Staff guide program flow and safety decisions during activities.

Accountability and Participation Outcomes

Project Kindred uses reasonable judgment to maintain safe and aligned program environments. When community expectations are not met, responses may include:

  • A reminder or redirection

  • A conversation with the participant and or family

  • Limits on participation in specific activities

  • Removal from an activity or program when necessary to protect safety, community wellbeing, or program integrity

Participation decisions prioritize the wellbeing of the full community.
