Project Kindred Program Participation
Terms + Conditions

These Program Participation Terms and Conditions govern participation in Project Kindred programming. These terms apply to all participants and, when needed, the parent or legal guardian of a participant.

By agreeing to these Terms and Conditions, the signer affirms understanding of how Project Kindred programming operates and the responsibilities connected to participation.

Scope of Programming Covered

These Terms and Conditions apply to participation in all Project Kindred programming and experiences, including Navigators, Pathmakers, Milwaukee Quest, year round programs, events, gatherings, and experiential learning opportunities.

Programming may vary in structure, format, location, duration, and level of staff involvement. Experiences may take place in community, public, partner, or Project Kindred managed spaces and may change over time.

Nature of Participation

Project Kindred programming supports leadership development, relationship building, and personal growth through experience.

Participation may include:

  • Staff led or partner led activities

  • Youth planned or youth led experiences

  • Independent or small group participation

  • Experiences in community, public, or partner spaces

  • Activities that require decision making, time management, and personal responsibility appropriate to age and experience

Not all program experiences include full structure or continuous supervision. Levels of structure and supervision vary by activity, setting, and participant age.

Participant Commitments

By participating in Project Kindred programming, the participant agrees to:

  • Follow program expectations, community agreements, participation guidelines, and staff instructions

  • Treat peers, staff, volunteers, partners, and community members with respect

  • Make choices that support personal safety, the safety of others, and community wellbeing

  • Communicate with staff when questions, concerns, or support needs arise

  • Represent themselves and Project Kindred responsibly during program related activities

Failure to meet these commitments may lead to limited participation in specific experiences or removal from programming when needed to protect safety, community wellbeing, or program integrity.

Family or Caregiver Commitments

By consenting to participation, the parent or legal guardian agrees to:

  • Support the participant’s involvement in Project Kindred programming

  • Review and discuss participation expectations and responsibilities with the participant

  • Understand that programming may involve varying levels of independence and responsibility

  • Share relevant information that may affect participation readiness or safety

  • Respond to communication from Project Kindred staff when needed

Participation requires shared responsibility between the participant, the family, and Project Kindred.

Attendance, Engagement, and Communication

Meaningful participation requires reasonable attendance, engagement, and communication.

When absences, schedule changes, or challenges arise, participants or caregivers are expected to communicate with Project Kindred staff when possible so appropriate support or adjustments can be made.

Supervision and Independence

Project Kindred staff and volunteers provide guidance, facilitation, and supervision during designated activities. Some programming involves youth decision making, independent participation, or activities where staff do not remain continuously present.

The degree of supervision varies by activity, setting, and participant age. Participation assumes increasing independence and responsibility as appropriate.

Behavioral Standards and Code of Conduct

Participants are expected to follow behavioral expectations during all programming, including:

  • Use respectful language and behavior toward peers, staff, volunteers, and community members

  • Refrain from harassment, bullying, violence, or behavior that endangers others

  • Refrain from possession or use of alcohol, drugs, or other prohibited items during program activities

  • Comply with organizational policies, procedures, and safety expectations

Violations of behavioral standards may lead to limited participation or removal from programming.

Technology and Communications

Participants agree to use phones, devices, communication tools, and online platforms connected to Project Kindred programming in a respectful and appropriate manner.

Technology use should support safety, learning, and positive participation and must not interfere with program expectations or the wellbeing of others.

Voluntary Participation and Program Continuity

Participation in Project Kindred programming remains voluntary. Participants may choose to withdraw at any time.

Project Kindred reserves the right to limit, suspend, or end participation if expectations are not met or if continued participation does not align with safety, community agreements, or program integrity.

Additional Agreements and Program Components

Certain activities or experiences may require additional agreements, waivers, or forms depending on the nature of the activity.

These may include, but are not limited to:

  • Health or medical information forms

  • Transportation-related acknowledgments

  • Media and communications releases

  • Specialized activity acknowledgments

  • Camp-specific agreements and requirements

Participation in certain activities may depend on completion of these additional forms, which Project Kindred will provide separately.

Liability Release and Assumption of Risk

Participation in Project Kindred programming includes activities in different settings. Activities may occur on site, off site, in the community, online, or during travel between locations. Some experiences may include independent or small group participation connected to programming.

Participation includes inherent risks. Risks may include physical injury, illness, emotional distress, property loss, or other harm. Risks may result from a participant’s actions, the actions of others, environmental conditions, or circumstances outside Project Kindred control.

Participation remains voluntary. The participant or signer chooses to take part and accepts the risks connected to participation.

To the fullest extent allowed by law, the participant or signer releases and holds harmless Project Kindred, including board members, staff, volunteers, contractors, partners, and agents, from claims connected to participation. This includes claims for injury, illness, death, property damage, or other loss, whether known or unknown.

When the participant remains under 18 years of age, the parent or legal guardian grants permission for participation and accepts the risks on behalf of the participant. The parent or legal guardian also agrees to the release described above on behalf of the participant and themselves.

Updates and Modifications

Project Kindred may update program expectations, participation guidelines, or related policies over time. Reasonable notice will be provided when updates affect active participants.
