Make Real Change

We’re Hiring Changemakers

We know that young people are natural leaders and community builders, but segregation limits their potential.

We work to unite young people of diverse backgrounds, develop community-building skills, and empower them to lead.

To make that possible, we assemble a team of youth development rockstars. We’re always looking for new rockstars to join our team: self-aware, kind, and courageous relationship builders.

Join our team and work to empower our young people to build a more diverse, equitable, and loving Milwaukee!

FAQs

  • We provide youth development programs that foster relationships across lines of difference while developing equitable leadership skills, and we have tons of fun while we’re at it!

Project Kindred brings together campers in grades 5th-12th from all across Milwaukee for an impactful summer camp experience.

Join our team to experience the power of summer camp at the Central Wisconsin Environmental Station.

  • The center of the Project Kindred experience is the cabin. Each cabin has one adult Experiential Youth Educator and eight youth participants. The Experiential Youth Educator serves as a group leader and facilitates campers’ growth through their time at camp. We have seen again and again that educators, school social workers, after school program leaders, and other youth development professionals make great counselors, which has us seeking high-performing youth development professionals each summer.

  • Our Experiential Youth Educators have a wide range of backgrounds. There is no single profile of a Project Kindred counselor, though all successful counselors:

    • Proactively create physical and emotional safety

    • Demonstrate a sense of self-awareness

    • Contribute to positive team culture

    • Builds rapport with youth

    • Has a passion for youth work

    • Is receptive to feedback

    • Creates inclusive spaces

    • Work with young people to build relationships and foster personal discovery

    • Learn and grow with a small group of youth development rockstars from Milwaukee!

    • Grow your youth development skills.

    • Through training and real-time experience, bring new skills from camp back to your classroom and community.

    • Lead and facilitate camp programs

    • Work with a diverse group of fellow Milwaukee young people and staff

    • Design and lead an activity that aligns with your interests

    • Leverage naturally occurring learning opportunities to facilitate group growth in areas of cultural awareness, positive identity, and social skills.

    • Enjoy your time at a beautiful camp!

We DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY

We strive to become the preeminent model for diverse and equitable, youth-led leadership programs. That means we need to do things differently.

We’re looking for dreamers, visionaries, and implementors who are willing to rethink what they know about youth development and education, and imagine a more just, equitable, and loving approach:

  • We practice anti-adultism. We work to remove unnecessary adult power over young people. Young people are empowered constantly.

  • We work collaboratively. We’re looking for people who are willing to roll up their sleeves and get involved in the development and implementation of our programs.

  • We’re still figuring this out. We don’t have all of the answers, but we’re committed to the journey.
