Our New Name!

Dear Friends,

Five years ago, with your support, we launched the first summer of Camp Kindred to address the impact of segregation on Milwaukee’s youth. We brought together 45 young people from across the city for an overnight summer camp experience where they could learn, play, and grow with new friends who look and live differently from themselves.

Within those four days, we saw these amazing leaders reaching out to each other, working through conflict together, asking big questions, and in short, showing us adults that another way is possible. We knew right then that these were the future leaders of our city.

And we knew right then that this work was worth doing. We set out to transform Camp Kindred into a year-round community, where we provide countless opportunities to unite the city’s young people and lead them to common ground, foster positive peer relationships, and develop the skills and values necessary to become empowered leaders — leaders who will go on to build diverse, equitable, loving communities for the next generation.

As we continue this journey, we’ll continue to adapt, learn, and grow, right alongside the young people we serve. This is active work. We must roll up our sleeves and get our hands dirty. We must be humble. We must be bold. We must accept that the work may never be complete. With this commitment to the tough but joyous work of building a more equitable and loving Milwaukee, we are rededicating ourselves to the cause with a new name: Project Kindred.

Our new name will remind us that this is not a passive endeavor.

Our new name will remind us that this work cannot be done alone.

Our new name will guide us in our mission to remove the barriers of segregation by uniting and empowering diverse young leaders through intentional, immersive programming.

So please, grab a seat. It’s time to get back to work at Project Kindred.

Gratefully,

Tom, Al & the Project Kindred Team
