the impact of consistent feedback

It took less than 90 minutes to see all of Project Kindred’s Five Foundations (see if you can spot all five throughout this story!) at play when six campers and three staff members met for the first-ever Project Kindred Camper Focus Group. Camper voices are a staple for improving programs and enhancing the camper experience at Kindred, and because of your support we are able to consistently adjust and make our programs better.

This group of campers thoughtfully reflected on their experience while seeking out the perspectives of others, especially when they had opposing viewpoints. They displayed self-awareness in their ability to recognize an opinion they had versus a shared opinion they heard from others. In one particular moment, a camper spotted the needs of others when discussing bedtimes and offered kindness and support for those who had different needs than them. Throughout this process, campers showed courage when they provided timely and relevant feedback.

While some complaints, like the weather, cannot change, campers were able to brainstorm new ideas for those unideal situations. Even if campers didn’t have strong opinions on specific activities, they still shared in the community and stayed present by offering a listening ear and asking clarifying questions.

Giving feedback can be intimidating, and our community of supporters help us ensure that Kindred can incorporate feedback constantly. Even the term “feedback” can bring a feeling of concern and ask us to think about the areas of growth rather than the areas that already glow. Through every activity, campers shared the wins and joy just as much as the critiques. Each piece of info was meaningful and typically offered a suggested change (what to do about bedtimes, how to make meals more seamless, etc.).

This group ended with a round of bridges and appreciation for one another and for the process. Because of their dedication and your support, Kindred gets to grow better for them and their peers.

Continue your dedication by giving a gift today!
